Local Area
The geographical space where client equipment or a local telephone exchange is located.

Latch
A frame that holds the device that supports the bare copper wires in an aerial telephone structure. It can either be mounted vertically as a ladder or horizontally against the telephone post.

Leading Operator
Operator with a significant market share.

 Local Call
Call made and received in the same network or in two inter-connected networks in the same local area.

Leased Circuits
A circuit within the public telecommunication network which provides transmission capacity between terminal points without the involvement of switching functions controlled by the user.

Local Switch
Switch to which the terminal equipment are directly connected.

Local Switched Telephone Service
Switched fixed telephone service which starts and terminates within the limits of a Local Area.
